Andrew Leonard’s voice is godsent – a pure, powerful force rendered for spiritual awakenings, and one the NYC disco house siren has mobilized from the dance floor pulpit to create calls to action in giving visibility to queer culture beyond clubs he so masterfully remodels. “We Just Want to Be (Let Me Love Pt. 2)” is the bookend to his forthcoming album, Andrew Leonard – Vol. 01, and first for former YVETTE drummer Dale Eisinger’s new label, Tower of Light, and doubles a timely message this Pride Month in its plea for long due acceptance and letting people exist as they want to. “We don’t ask for much now / We just want to love / We just want to be loved now,” he sings, at first a polite request. As the listen continues, that request grows its powers in confidence to a demand by the tenfold over it undercurrent of Eisinger’s future house production of prismatic chain synths and a punked up flash of basslines just to make sure you’re listening. “We just want to be!,” his voice hits that high, and he won’t be coming down from there until equality isn’t something that’s still being questioned.
Andrew Leonard’s “We Just Want to Be (Let Me Love Pt. 2)” single is available now on Tower of Light.
