Deeper – “Build a Bridge”

With so much anxiety to contend with as the norm these days, a band like Deeper comes around and provides a form of relief to it, at the very least sonically, in their prism of post-punk. Now signed with Sub Pop leading into their third studio effort, Careful!, the Chicago-based four-piece stare down nihilism and foil it with a mental escape route on the album’s latest single “Build a Bridge”. The listen doesn’t gloss over the fact that doing the emotional gymnastics it takes to get through this life aren’t without a degree of exhaustion, but they at the least provide resolve through glossier detours in this next step by rounding angles in a cool of pop moves à la a melody to the malady and vapory synths tempering the tension. “It’s the right kind of rhythm!,” Nic Gohl declares. He’s not wrong if it can get you out of a brain trap.
