Loma Prieta – “Circular Saw”

The title “Circular Saw” would on the surface level suggest a listen that shreds incredibly fast, and it eventually does get to that point, but Loma Prieta are in their experimental pocket on the latest preview from the Bay Area post-hardcore band’s upcoming album, Last. The two minutes and twenty seconds which preoccupy your senses walk through a daydream – a delicate weave of emo-ish guitars and a spoken word passage immersed deep beneath. It’s a drift of time suspended, reflective of a much greater realization that our time is more valuable than money, and yet, we are captive to, be it in order to to survive or as a measure of our own value. “‘I’m my own boss,’ you tell yourself / ‘No we all are,’ you remind yourself / Until you accept that money is / Especially strange, money is virtual / We’ve lost control.” As thoughts connect through the fog, reality hits, and razorsharp anger rips through the existential trance. “Ask for help, they don’t give a fuck / Your friends die, they don’t give a fuck It makes me sick / Someone’s got to pay for all of this / Corporations want to be treated like people? / Soon we’ll be waiting at the door.”

Loma Prieta’s Last will be released June 30th on Deathwish Inc.
