Jessy Lanza – “Midnight Ontario”

“Do you even know? / What my love really means? / Baby, I was falling / Nothing was what it seemed,” Jessy Lanza breaths on “Midnight Ontario”, the second single from the electronic artist’s forthcoming fourth full-length effort, Love Hallucination. It may be cliché to say she creates a vibe which hits the oxytocin drip just right, but anyone who creates music with the intent of eliciting a feeling and is doing it right will do just that. Except Lanza’s soundscape is one where while excess may always rest at the surface, it’s not always explicitly pure euphoria. Alongside producer Jacques Greene, she pulls in a lust for something bigger from the feelings from another, and diffuses them through the track’s hazy, hyper-kinetic synapses. “I’m falling like tears in the rain,” she sings. The emotional forecast here sees no clearing beyond being caught in the storm.
