mo dotti – “ever”

mo dotti understand the connection between noise-pop and human emotion better than most bands at the moment supposing to conjure dreamy feels in their sound. On last year’s breakthrough extended play, guided imagery, the Los Angeles four-piece pulled us into a saccharine tour de force of colorfully synesthesic swervedriving of the mind and heart that merged planes within physical and outer body realms. “ever” – their first new music since that release and their contribution to Stories, an upcoming compilation bringing together a dozen emerging Los Angeles-based queer and BIPOC artists through an interwoven concept of storytelling as a community – is one that goes even deeper beneath either. This is desire disrupted by a squalor of delay pedals and a steady crush of feedback, submerging all thought in stasis. The few connecting are only that of the realization of being stuck. “Really wishing everything’s fine / I can’t believe this life / Always feeling so overwhelmed and wasting so much time,” Gina Negrini’s voice sees its way somehow through the washed out view. It’s like witnessing everything crashing down at once but in slow motion, with mo dotti acting as the transmitter from the farthest depths of the human conscious at its lowest point.

Stories will be released June 2nd on Practical Records.
