Temple of Angels – “Waving to the Wind”

Escapism occurs in many forms. In music, it can be a sensation reaching out beyond all rules of physical law and transporting listeners elsewhere, even if just spiritually for a few moments, somewhere better than where they currently are. “Waving to the Wind”, the second single from Temple of Angels’ debut full-length, Endless Pursuit, is this hyper-transcendental fixation on being anywhere but here at its most elevated. From its start, the Austin-based four-piece of vocalist Bre Morell, guitarists Avery Burton and Cole Tucker, and Patrick Todd let the dream rush through them – fast, exhilarating and dazzling in their texturizing of gauzy, supernatural guitar-pop – as Morell is windswept by memories that do much of the same, all so delicate yet powerful in their element. “When I was young the winds would lift me up and take me home / Whispering of the world and all the stars we’ll never know / Their love forever flows through me,” her voice soars. As we look down on this Earth with her from outside our own bodies, you realize Temple of Angels have gone one step further beyond a mere temporal change of scenery. They’ve changed what we’ve become in that moment, too.
