Leading into the release of their second collaborative full-length, Maps, billy woods and Kenny Segal are taking listeners along for a cerebral trip inside the working life and mind of an artist out there on the road. As illustrated between the bars of the effort’s first single, “Facetime”, what you see on your socials is far from the realities of being away from your home base, and the turbulence doesn’t stop on the album’s latest preview, “Soft Landing”. Segal, for his part, provides a vibey chasm for the NYC underground rapper’s lips to take off on throughout this leg of the journey, with the listen flying featherlight in its production of sun-lilted lo-fi guitars cruising tens of thousands of feet above the destination while woods looks down at the world, far and distant from ease. “Maybe suicidal thoughts was the everyday struggle / For a brief, sweet, moment it was nothing in the thought bubble / From up here the lakes is puddles / The land unfold brown and green, it’s a quiet puzzle,” he rhymes, acknowledging the fact that when you’re not down there doing your work, you’re flyin’ high with the birds letting the mind work you…

billy woods & Kenny Segal’s Maps will be released May 5th on Backwoodz Studioz.
