Recommended Album: ISOLA – ‘LP1′

Ivana Carrescia is evidence of a multi-verse’s existence, as the songwriter has transcended dimensions within our timeline in various shapes and formations over the years. It’s often reflective in a geographical sense just as well with wherever the universe finds her at any given moment, be it the vocalist for cryptic Brooklyn post-punks Eddi Front, collaborating with former Godmode Music producer Nick Sylvester (Channel Tres, Yaeji) as the industrial electronic haunt Gioia, or tapping into her own spiritual realm under her own given name. When Carrescia and Sylvester reconvened their collaborative efforts as she journeyed to the foreground of the Vegas desert, ISOLA – a fusion of ambient electronic music and minimalist dance – was born from its mystical air. What makes the project in its current status all the more beguiling, however, is that Carrescia is now based in the West Virginia farmlands – arguably, not a space one would parallel to the physical unknown – and yet, it’s the emotions behind LP1 – the project’s debut full-length and first for Sylvester’s new imprint, Smartdumb – that discovery entry into another world. One that looks much like the one you and I exist in for that matter, as ISOLA sees dreams as tangible experiences in our real world. Carrescia, with the aid Sylvester’s perfectionist instincts in reorganizing the chemistry behind techno music and inventing niche in the form of “microhouse,” are the canvas which the exploration of falling into, through, and becoming the feeling we know as love is a tempered euphoria. The arid magic of EP1 soundscape continues to breeze through in circular motion throughout the listen, yet it’s the realized imagination of living fully present in it all that in turn makes LP1 vividly pop with oxytocin. Sleek and focused in its design even when neuroplasticity can find itself in fluctuation, ISOLA will have you pondering portals by way of syncing our affective science with the electronic pulse.

ISOLA’s LP1 is available now on Smartdumb.
