bar italia – “punkt”

“punkt” is not necessarily goth in the sense that it contends with lyrical macabre or morbid tropes, but the mood which bar italia bring forth on the latest single from the rising London indie rock trio’s debut full-length, Tracey Denim, is one which colors the room with subtle hues complimenting the dark. At the same time, it’s a sophisticated form of indie rock that occupies liminal spaces between brooding fashion and minimalistic proficiency in using guitar, bass and drumlines in a manner where less is more in accentuating an eerie presence. Jezmi Tarik Fehmi, Sam Fenton, and Nina Cristante all crisscross barbs with their own characteristic apparitions – shrugged, slightly aghast, and pleading for an end resolve – throughout the course of the listen. “Creep into my bed / Some dark nights get into my head / Can you turn me on?,” goes one line. It’s invitation is cool in its lurk, though beware: It also has a strange way of paralyzing you once it has you inside.
