Advocating for a revolution is an inside job for cumgirl8, as the NYC four-piece have been weaponing danceable post-punk as their platform for interrupting the status quo across a full-length and extended play since arriving on the scene in 2020. Now signed to 4AD, the band is paying homage to those who laid the groundwork in using their subversive strengths to work their way into the hands of power, starting with their latest single “cicciolina”. The song derives its title from the former politician elected to Italian parliament in the ‘90s, Ilona Staller – known otherwise by her adult film screenname Cicciolina – who on her platform of “make sex, not war” would be vocal about protecting human rights and ending wars, even if it meant taking a bullet and offering to fuck Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden in an effort to call for a peace truce. This is to say that she epitomized the true spirit of the disruptor, and Lida Fox, Veronica Vilim, Avishag Rodrigues, and Chase Lombardo become that energy through a listen that’s one part siren song and one part eradicator as it seduces you into their fold before requesting you destroy every oppressor with them.
