Though Adam McIlwee has been creating with the scene for well over a decade now, we are just scratching the surface of what he can really do in a more fully realized state as a songwriter. The former Tigers Jaw frontman and Gothboiclique founder who has amassed a cult following under the banner Wicca Phase Springs Eternal re-enters the frame again transforming his vision and his sound beyond the expectant trappings he’s since perfected. In a sense, the migration is circular back to his roots in rock music on “Moving Without Movement”, the lead single from his forthcoming self-titled effort. Fusing the cadence of emo-rap with cold 808s, ‘80s pop synths, and danceable post-punk basslines, McIlwee sounds at home with his new surroundings, a world familiar nurturing morbid, romantic themes but in this instance, tapping into a magic that is more so universally bound by its sparkle of hope. “I’m living underneath a spell / You know how to make it right,” he sings. Across past lives converging together, this direction reaches a future-perfect state of Wicca Phase Springs Eternal.

Wicca Phase Springs Eternal’s Wicca Phase Springs Eternals will be released June 2nd on Run for Cover Records.
