Heavy is the head that wears the crown. If Courtney was the smoldering image of dysmorphia and self-medicating the sadness away, then Midwife’s Madeline Johnston and Vyva Melinkolya’s Angel Diaz are the ether from that flame on “Miss America”, the second single from the heaven-metal auteur and ambient pop tandem’s forthcoming collaborative album, Orbweaving. Together, they are a swirl of smoke with Johnston’s voice weightless, being pulled along by a single current of decaying electricity. “I’m the dog that has to eat / I’m the hand that feeds / Am I only the things I’ve seen?,” she wonders, wandering alone in it all searching for home even though she’s on top of the world.
