Meditation is a process that begins inward until it’s labors can be visibly be seen to everyone who encounters them in the outside world. For Jxylen, a young and eager Massachusetts-based rapper, the spiritual soul-searching he’s done since the release of last year’s promising, stark inversions, PROJECT MAYHEM, is the light that is breaking through the caverns on his latest EP, DIVINE ORDER: ACT I, attesting to that journey. A 7-track, 11-minute transitional exercise of the mind, the seamless listen focuses stream-of-conscious bars around a daze of syrupy, soul-sampled beats as well as vaporized currents produced by E.N.G. Creation. Accountability, healing and growth are common themes popping off the synapses, finding the rhymer in a more connected state with himself and his spirituality, illuminating paths from rabbit holes where negative fantasies once got the best of him. The gritty exterior of Jxylen’s voice coats what’s beaming through with a hardened vibe, though it doubles as a shield from the bad things that can often curb a healthy train of thought wayward. Through him, a spirit, a positive energy, a transcendental light – whatever you want to call it – flows, and with it, so does his art grow in nurturing the underground rap community with greater purpose.
Highlights: “DON’T WAIT”, “HEALING FACTOR”, “NOW OR NEVER”
