The fabric of the space-time continuum is interwoven right before our eyes, and maybe we need not an astrophysicist to deconstruct it for us. The pen of a songwriter as they peer into their own life existentially will do just fine. “Days go by / They don’t have time / Separate time and vision,” reflects Jana Horn on “Days Go By”, the final highlight from the Virginia-by-way-of-Austin artist’s imminent sophomore album, The Window Is the Dream. In that one line alone, she offers sound evidence while setting a mood for what reveals itself throughout the listen: Space is seemingly amorphous against the background of any frame, and through Horn’s meticulous gaze where her song – a transfixing mystique of folk impressionism – many chapters in a lifetime overlap seamlessly. “Maybe one thing doesn’t lead to the next.” Every dimension past and present is stitched together right there in front of us. You just need to step out of your body to see it.
Jana Horn’s The Window Is the Dream will be released April 7th on No Quarter.
