Jenny Lewis has had more than her fair share of run-ins with sociopaths out there in her vast life voyage, and we’re often privileged to hear about some of those weirdos sketched out in detail through her songwriting. “Psychos”, the lead single from her forthcoming album, Joy’all, may take the metaphorical crown. This one needn’t even try to placate any egos unlike her tales of the next messiah or narcissistic personalities, because when you’ve come across some faux-wellness bro who already consider his talents and burdens to be on the level of Jesus Christ warringwith the Devil, surely nothing anyone can say or do to help will bring him down from the clouds. “I’m not a psycho / I’m just tryn’a get laid,” she sings from the center of his delusion. “I’m a rock ‘n roll disciple / In a video game.” Luckily, she’s able to get away from this chance encounter, Laurel Canyon breeze pointing toward a Nashville sun, leaving this weird guy as master of his own crazy town domain.
Jenny Lewis’ Joy’all will be released June 9th on Blue Note Records / Capitol Records.
