You think headed into “The Punisher” that you’ve heard it all in the designs of post-punk, but Stuck run contrary to predicated outlines on the first single from the Chicago four-piece’s forthcoming effort, Freak Frequency. The listen is an exercise in applying the tension of our everyday American life to instrument and soundboard, and then attempting to exert even more so tension in any open space available. The result is a berserk strain – Vocalist and guitarist Greg Obis’ overview on the fall of Western culture becoming more and more entangled in electrical wire, and those same electrical currents unfurling from clean lines into messy, coarse feedback with an unhinged sax solo in its tail end by collaborator Sarah Caulson furthering the point that we’ve lost the plot. “They’ve got good news / It’s so sick living in a fanfic,” hurls Obis. “They’ve got good news / There’s new life springing from a death cult.” It seems this chapter of the circle of life will only end when we do…
