Somewhere in the numb of 2020, the electronic mystique of ISOLA – the moniker of multi-faceted songwriter Ivana Carrescia, who has in past creative lives existed in the dreary post-punk of Eddi Front, working in tandem with Godmode Music producer Nick Sylvester as the haunted industrial electronic medium Gioia, and in séance with the spiritual world under her own name – found us in it. It’s been three years since that apparition with the project’s promising debut, EP1, yet “Too Soon”, the first single off her debut full-length, aptly named LP1, mirrors the clearer view that has emerged in our lives since, even if emotions remained veiled. Again working alongside Channel Tres and Yaeji producer Nick Sylvester (who will be releasing the album as his first for Smartdumb, his new label since exiting Godmode Music,) the listen in its deep, heartboom bassline and microhouse quarks feels like the premonition of something about to burst on the horizon. “I have a really good feeling about this one / Is it too soon to say?,” Carrescia wonders. “Never had another such a good feeling for another / Is it too soon to say?,” When the clock strikes midnight, there’s no pumpkins abound. Just a sign from the other side of the universe welcoming that intuition.
ISOLA’s LP1 will be released April 28th on Smartdumb.
