As deathcrash, the London four-piece of vocalist and guitarist Tiernan Banks, bassist Patrick Fitzgerald, guitarist Matthew Weinberger, and drummer Noah Bennett are giving this next wave of slowcore a louder look leading up to the release of their sophomore full-length, Less. “Empty Heavy”, an early highlight, encapsulates that contrast in energy. In its early moments, the listen is trembling, with Banks’ voice murmured and hushed as guitars occasional refract glints of light over the dead space around him. It’s when the pieces come into full view where deathcrash turn everything inside-out, turning into all the matter that once seemed empty into a doom metal collision of realization. “Don’t ever…,” Banks repeats as the listen recoils back into its void. It’s as if nothing and everything happened at all.
