Go deeper beneath “The Surface”, and you’ll find there’s a way to transcend the everyday breakdown with Initiate. The second single from the Cali progressive hardcore band’s second full-length, Cerebral Circus, is in part, tough and battled, with vocalist Crystal Pak bench pressing off excess distress as the throttling bad vibes whip around her in riff-form from all direction. Clawing her way through it, she gets to the real heart of the matter, and finds a saccharine place to just be as one is in its chorus, a soaring melodic punk pasture, in its own level. Doubt, insecurity, and everything that gets to us – All that burns skin-deep. Anything that nourishes you won’t be found there.
