The Van Pelt – “Grid”

The Van Pelt’s recollection of the past continues to surface into view on “Grid”, the final preview off the seminal indie-emo rock band’s very long-awaited fourth full-length effort, Artisans & Records. In this instance, it’s racing into mind like a chase scene. Decidedly more of a post-punk refraction into a specific memory, vocalist Chris Leo narrates the listen with a sing-spoken panic involving seeing a band in a garage at a house party, losing his keys, and a girl who calls him a loser, straight down to pinpointing the particularities to its street intersection. Repetition of the memory propels the listen into a spin-out, getting swept up onto the commotion of a night where everything goes right and wrong. At the time, it probably felt like any other night when you’re younger, and yet, those are the ones that leave their mark decades on…

The Van Pelt’s Artisans & Merchants will be released March 17th on Gringo Records / La Castanya / Spartan Records.
