There was a moment in time in modern independent music when bands actually dared to defy homogeny in a way that made them imcomparable to anyone else. Milk Music, a PNW punk band birthed in the underbelly of its DIY scene, were one such band whose names were commonplace during the early 2010s among indie listeners. As poptimism rolled in, indie rock conflated itself with mainstream bravado, and everything became much more mid in its fame chasing, predictability settled in as bands like Milk Music went back underground and unseen at that. Now known as Mystics 100′s, they’re returning with a heaping reminder of what it is to be feral in independent music when they release their double LP return album, On a Micro Diet, at the end of this month. Its title track is also a shock to today’s norms to digest. At 10-minutes in length, the five-piece of Dave Harris, Alex Coxen, Charles Waring, Joe Rutter, Abby Dalhquist and Travis Coster spawn psychedelic limbs which sound like they’re fueled by a trip bent on escaping this physical plane, each second become something altogether different – a spirit in sound unlike any other else.
Mystic 100′s On a Micro Diet will be released March 31st on Online Ceramics.
