“Happiness is in the mind,” Jana Horn signals inward in the early moments of “The Dream”, the second single from the Austin-based wanderer’s upcoming full-length, The Window Is the Dream. Stirring somewhere between rapid eye movement and full lucidity, Horn connects parallel planes between what exists as the subconscious takes hold when we release ourselves from the waking hours and that which we perceive to be our actual reality upon opening our eyes. As a flicker of guitar floats about a mercurial space where energy seems to change shape and matter, Horn’s musings lend credence to her initial thought: Maybe the only pure feeling of joy to be found is when our mind turns off the outside world.
