Xiu  Xiu – “Pahrump”

If you’ve got an uneasy feeling that a new Xiu Xiu album is about to make an apparition in soundtracking this decaying world, your hunch would be correct. “Pahrump”, the second preview from Ignore Grief by the characteristically avant- et. al. project led by Jamie Stewart, Angela Seo, and on this effort, joined alongside Sparks and Devo members David Kendrick, is very much a Xiu Xiu song in the way it cinematically steps through discomforting sensations born in the dark. An errant sax contributed by Patrick Shiroishi only coils that tension tighter. “It details the avoidable disaster of someone I love having chosen the sloshing path of cocaine and booze over her children, who I also love,” said Stewart of the listen. “She lives and will likely soon die in the nightmare town of Pahrump, Nevada.” Welcome to the bleakness of humanity, audibly manifested.

Directed by: Angela Seo

Xiu Xiu’s Ignore Grief will be released March 3rd on Polyvinyl Records.
