What would happen if you inverted the Beastie Boys’ 1992 smash “So What’cha Want” and thrashed it through an outright hardcore blender? That’s kind of what “Trust the Process”, the latest preview from the HIRS Collective’s forthcoming collab-heavy album, We’re Still Here, gets at for its inspo. Joined by My Chemical Romance guitarist Frank Iero as well as Rosie Richeson of that always-pissed Floridian hardcore punk outfit Night Witch, the ensemble not-so-delicately dive into the abyss that is attempting self-medicating your pain away, shit-smacked sarcastic tongue in tact. “Lexaprozacoloft / Invade my pupils and sex drive and take all of my trauma / JK! I’m zombied with open wounds.” Somewhere within the inner turmoil, there’s still a groove pushing through, and hopefully it works its way out of the numbness cloud.
