It’s not clear if Tanukichan ever formally announced the arrival of her sophomore effort, GIZMO, but even before it was a real thing, the Oakland-based dream-pop alter ego of Hannah van Loon had already quietly released two gems in the nu-metal gaze of “Don’t Give Up” and the power-pop positivity behind “Make Believe”. Leading into its March release, she’s unveiled another outright highlight with “Thin Air”. Featuring her dazed peers from further up the Pac Northwest coast in Enumclaw, the two perspectives between van Loon’s hushed look-backs washing over warmer memories and Aramis Johnson stressing out over what never came to be, the playoff tells both sides of romance from every feeling in its fallout. “Maybe I’ll see you one last time / Who knows if I can stay around for your love.”
Tanukichan’s GIZMO will be released March 3rd on Company Records.
