“Check it / It’s been exclusion from the jump / And that’s a fact / Ya bumbaclat / Fiya bun fi dat,” tag team Zulu frontperson Anaiah Lei and drummer Christine Cadette on “Where I’m From”, the latest single off the Los Angeles hardcore band’s debut full-length, A New Tomorrow. Joined alongside Soul Glo’s Pierce Jordan and Playytime’s Obioma Ugonna, the message is loud and clear coming from all corners of the scene where their faces are changing the way it typically looks. Everybody wants in on what they’ve got, but nobody wants to be a part of that same struggle to be seen. They own it.
