Truth Cult – “Heavy Water”

Truth Cult turned heads last spring as one of the early openers during Turnstile’s stacked The Turnstile Love Connection tour, and those heads will continue doing so into the New Year as the Baltimore post-hardcore band is en route to releasing the follow-up to 2020′s breakthrough, Off Fire, when Walk the Wheel drops in March on Pop Wig. Something that was never fair to them a few years ago were the too easy comparisons to the ‘90s-era D.C. Dischord scene (alongside it dropping during a pandemic,) so on the album’s lead single “Heavy Water”, vocalist Paris Roberts, bassist and vocalist Emily Ferrara, guitarist Ian Marshall, drummer Robin Zeijlon, and additional guitarist Michael French (who joined the outfit after the recording of LP) do their damage by going out of bounds: they get weird in psychedelic imagery. “With a jailer’s smile / Leached on concrete / Seeping up from the pores / Boxes full of sex and paranoia.” Take a few sips and feel the new heavy groove in unexpected ways.

Truth Cult’s Walk the Wheel will be released March 3rd on Pop Wig.
