“In a single year, I’ve aged one hundred / My social life, a chiropractic appointment / Sit still long enough to listen to yourself / Or maybe just long enough for you to atrophy to hell,” explains Hayley Williams on “C’est Comme Ça”, the latest preview from Paramore’s new album, This Is Why. The wry ways of modern U.K. post-punk are evident on her tongue as are the band’s exploration of dance-punk that has flowed through their post-pandemic return from isolation hibernation. “I know that regression is rarely rewarded / I still need a certain degree of disorder.” Even if the times have allowed Williams and company to find their center, it’s when it won’t hold where they admit feeling most alive.
