Though the latest track from crushed’s extra life – the forthcoming debut EP from he new band comprised of Weekend’s Shaun Durkan and Temple of Angels’ Bre Morell – is emotionally-washed in past flickers of a nuanced relationship bygone, the pair are crystallizing them in a vivid reality through their modernist reinvention of shoegaze, trip-hop, and dreamy pop textures. “All the wayside leads / They bring me right back where you stand,” Durkan sings. Every past footprint circles right into the moment now, and in that moment, he ponders the next steps away from it.
