Big Laugh eschew what may usually be visible in the hardcore flames on “Shadow Figure”, the lead single from the Milwaukee four-piece’s debut full-length, Consume Me, and create their own spark. It’s not that the band don’t burn with the same fire normally used to thrash through paranoia and conspiracy in their energy and words, but there’s a harshness formed right at the surface level of their sound here that causes a static friction when vocalist Drew, guitarist Zach, bassist Casey and drummer Jesse seer into the darkness. Underneath that layer, they’re able to rip out any societal evil waiting at bay.
