Neutral Milk Hotel – “Little Birds”

Neutral Milk Hotel are back, in box set form. One of esoteric indie rock’s most beguiling and elusive bands will be releasing in February The Collected Works of Neutral Milk Hotel, which as its title suggests is a complete collection of their entire recorded work. Outside from expanded versions of albums familiar, the anthology will also feature previously unreleased songs like “Little Birds”, a song which had up until now existed only in live recorded form found throughout the voids of the Internet, but now gets a proper release. Perhaps even more profound in its lore today than when it was written back in 1998 after Jeff Mangum’s clash with a conservative street preacher delivering hateful thoughts in public against the LGBTQ community, this naked song is like a knotted hymnal delivering a cautionary allegory on lies spun within the good word.

Neutral Milk Hotel’s The Collected Works of Neutral Milk Hotel will be released February 24th on Merge Records.
