Since their David Comes to Life era, Fucked Up have stewed in the recording process, be it in album, EP or their Zodiac single form. “Found”, the second single from the Toronto punk band’s sixth studio effort, One Day, is a reset from that expectant intensive intentionality, with it being both written and recorded in the span of just a single day. That active brain approach colors their world more so in reality than fiction or mythology, as vocalist Damien Abraham and a gang chorus scream into a present day view of gentrification. “There I stood on the shore / Of a story we don’t tell anymore / All the names were erased / Buried under a land that my people stole.” The scenery is beautiful, but its known history makes it muddied and ugly, with Fucked Up’s anthem being its collision between both.
Fucked Up’s One Day will be released January 27th on Merge Records.
