“Sweet Like Candy”, the latest preview from the HIRS Collective’s forthcoming album, We’re Still Here, is more than a bitter taste to what its title may suggest. Joined by D.C. hardcore screamers Nø Man, experimental metalmakers Thou, and former Less Than Jake member Jessica Joy Mills b.n.a. JJM, the listen is a rejection of ageist manipulation, especially that which is capitalistically aimed at feminine exploitation. Heavily encrusted in its primal body and scathing at any unhealthy ritual, it denies expectations to be: “I choose decay.” And so needless vanity is purged.
