After Laughter was Paramore at their most art-pop, but “The News” is a reinvigoration in the most welcome sense to the reformed emo rockers’ most abrasive corners. The band has counted Bloc Party as a huge influence on their forthcoming album, This Is Why (and they’re even doing them a solid by bringing them out on tour next with them,) and here, you can audibly see where the angles of the UK band’s Aughts-era post-punk lends itself to Paramore’s anxious energy as Hayley Williams stares vacantly through the nonstop trauma that is our everyday news cycle with a sharpened lens.
