Aaron Heard was Nothing’s ace of bass, but closer to the chest was his metalcore outlet Jesus Piece. With an underheralded breakthrough under their belt in 2018’s Only Self, they’ve become his focal point after parting with his fellow Philly heavy-makers, with “An Offering to the Night”, the first preview from the band’s forthcoming sophomore effort, barreling right into whatever the next chapter comes their way. “Face of fear / I see right through it,” Heard shouts over an onslaught of grotesque, chugging riffs pulling pounds of flesh apart. This is the start of Jesus Piece’s proper worship to the void.
