Blood – “Self Improvement”

“Just work on yourself, bro,” advice plenty of nobodies to those who should already feel like somebodies in our current climate of nauseating self-care tropes about betterment that only lend their way to more burnout. “Self Improvement”, Blood’s contribution to Fire Talk’s Open Tab imprint singles series, fries at the thought. The Philly-based six-piece are well-learned of post-punk histrionics and feeding off of over-stimulation, here haywired ecstaticaly in the corners of Meet Me In the Bathroom-era dance-punk and modern self-immolation. “You’re not trying hard enough / To improve yourself,” repeatedly shouts vocalist Tim O’Brien, with each line pushing the brain into full mental collapse.

Directed by: Andrew McGlennon

Blood’s “Self Improvement” single is available now on Fire Talk / Open Tab.
