Traveling many thousands of miles over the past year on tour since the release of last year’s breakthrough debut album, This Place You Know, One Step Closer are more battered and bruised in their emotions on “Dark Blue”. Shit comes at you so fast when you’re one of the best new bands in the scene at a tipping point in hardcore’s latest golden age, and it’s scary to look at the life you knew in the rearview while staring down the open road of everything you worked hard to achieve. “Slow as the coldness melts from me / Like a falling leaf / This scene it breaks my focus / When things feel out of reach,” screams vocalist and guitarist Ryan Savitski over melodic tears through the seasons. Conflicted feelings fuel the aggression, yet the band’s anthems reach new peaks. Gripping the past and future at both ends hard, One Step Closer are baring the marks of a band doing the most to not let growing pains separate them from either.
