“Aquarius” has its head in the clouds, and in Subsonic Eye’s case, that’s probably the best place for them to be here. A highlight from Melt the Wax, the latest EP from the Singapore five-piece of vocalist Nur Wahida, guitarists Daniel Castro Borces and Jared Lim, bassist Spencer Tan, and drummer Lucas Tee, hears the band sonically clarifying their kinetic dream-pop with sharper power lines in respects to their energy while electrical currents bow in and out as Wahida’s thoughts pour over. “Can’t read my horoscopes in all the papers / They call me dreamer, can’t keep my head to focus / I find myself spacing out when they talk,” she sings. Dear Aquarius, don’t you know you’re only at your most powerful when you feel misunderstood?
Subsonic Eye’s Melt the Wax is available now on Topshelf Records.
