Margaret Sohn is on the path to further finding the self leading up to the release of their debut full-length since signing to Mute Records, Follow the Cyborg. The title track from the Korean-American multi-instrumentalist builds itself around synthetic splendor and guitar lines plugging in together to create one body, and thus, building on layers in asking who one is. In this instance, perhaps that answer lies closest to that which is artificially designed and learns of its environment over time through introspective observation. “’Cause I was born to pose / Oh, I was born with clothes / I’m a living girl / A real living girl / Your real living girl,” Sohn discovers in one instance, only to realize soon after, “I’m a living boy / A real living boy.” The understanding is always evolving, just as the listen becomes something different by its end.
