Anxious – “Where You Been”

Anxious have been on the road non-stop even before the release of this year’s excellent debut album, Little Green House, and the personal wear of that comes to a head on “Where You Been”, their latest one-off single that arrives in the midst of – you guessed it – another tour. “Yeah, don’t worry it’s fine / To run to run,“ vocalist Grady Allen projects on the part of his family back home, with his intentions to make the most of the moments he’s around in breaking fashion. “I’ll see you sometime, maybe I’ll try.” Like the recent “Sunsign”, the listen again hears the band working with producer Mike Sapone (Taking Back Sunday, Oso Oso) whose hand helps fill out the emotive Connective punk band’s softer anxieties with power-pop harmonies, buzzing synth spirals, and reflective pianos that show how much they’ve grown out there while undergoing the growing pains that come with living out their dream. It’ll probably mean all the more when they’re home for the holidays and get to sing it out loud in front of everyone, though.
