Our future possible selves are transmitted through the atmosphere of “Place Your Debts”, the latest single from Jimmy Eat World. Approaching their thirtieth year as a band, the emo rock luminaries who have attempted to find clarity, not be concerned with a distracting sweetness, and do the work to get out of a dead end are continuing to embrace being all the more wiser for it in delving into the human condition through a tempered, maturing salve of currents and keys. “How do we keep making all the same mistakes?,” asks Jim Adkins through a cool, slow moving air. “We’d rather have the misery than growing pains.” If you know what’s best for you, you’ll listen to these words as a means to understand life’s course better.
