Recommended Album: Enumclaw – ‘Save the Baby’

Life comes at Enumclaw so fast on Save the Baby. After breaking through obscurity and a hometown burnout scene last year with their hugely promising Jimbo Demo EP, the Tacoma four-piece are learning to reconcile where they come from with where they’re going on another impressive collection of saccharine indie rock that harbors the weight of their world with equal sighs of regret and relief. It’s also their first outing with producer Gabe Wax (Soccer Mommy, the War On Drugs) who gives the crusty pop textures of their early work a proper wash, revealing a depth detail in their melodies syrupy noise and an added ache to vocalist Aramis Johnson’s inner admissions pouring out. “I just want to wake up brand new,” he sings on the opener and title track. Those Oasis ambitions they infamously set their sights on from the very beginning may not be as grandly evident here, but it’s for best they deal with stardom one day at a time.

Highlights: “Save the Baby”, “Cowboy Bepop”, “10th and J 2″

Enumclaw’s Save the Baby is available now on Luminelle Recordings.
