“First, I’d like to say that I’m sorry / I’ve done all the tricks that I can,” sings Karin Dreijer on their return as Fever Ray, “What They Call Us”. Produced by their brother (and former Knife-mate) Olof Dreijer, the first new music we’ve heard from the Swedish experimental artist in five years emerges from a bleak sphere of dire, unsettling emotions with as much intrigue as it does in spite of its eerie nature in the way its manic synapses and boom beats counter the crawl of their voice. All apologies considered, there’s still plenty to be fascinated by in the Fever Ray universe of sound.
