Mindforce only keep getting better at their barrage. On their sophomore follow-up to their 2018 breakthrough, Excalibur, and last year’s heavy-handed Swingin Swords, Choppin Lords EP, the Hudson Valley crew’s weaponizing of hardcore with metal motifs has been refined to its most exacting plan of attack yet, running 10 tracks through 17 minutes in a stealth speed cardio workout mode led by Jay Peta’s charged up vocal lead. If there’s been any audible shift in the band’s sound this time around, it would be that the breakdowns – while still falling down like metallic axes and hammer – call for bigger revolutionary anthem in their battle against societal waste. It’s a sound that will surely expand Mindforce’s growing legion behind them, and help cement their reign as one of modern hardcore’s most viscerally heavy and melodic band’s ascending.
