Punitive Damage share three members (plus a producer in Taylor Young) with Regional Justice Center, and when you hear “Drawn Lines”, the lead single from the Pac Northwest quartet’s debut full-length, This Is the Blackout, you get why. Vocalist Jerkova shifts the narrative from hardcore norms away from standard bro-ish community bonds and toward something more gutted and personal – In her case, her own experience as the daughter of immigrants living among the alleged land of the free and equal. The listen sprints through with fire-breathing measure and burns the divide between she and her opposition alongside guitarist Czecho, bassist Kermit, and drummer Alejandro, standing tall on her own terms. Its intent is to wreck any and all constructs that fail us as a society.
Punitive Damage’s This Is the Blackout will be released October 14th on Atomic Action Records.
