With “gift horse”, the first single from Gatherers’ upcoming fourth studio effort, ( mutilator. ), the Jersey-based five-piece of vocalist Rich Weinberger, guitarists Anthony Gesa and Rob Talalai, bassist Siddhu Anandalingam, and drummer Adam Cichocki occupy a bleary space in heavy music that balances the destructive beauty, heavy onslaught, and strange experiments of the mind mixed with emotional violence projected onto the soundboard. Some may feel keen to draw in the Deftones similarities, though an appearance by fellow Garden State hardcore icon Geoff Rickly of Thursday and No Devotion with flashes of silver makes this “gift” gleam in its own compound of metal.
