Dry Cleaning – “Gary Ashby”

“Gary Ashby”, the title of the band’s latest single off their sophomore effort, Stumpwork, would suggest the name of a proper English bloke, but alas, it is the name of a tortoise who escaped the perils of isolation during pandemic lockdown. Rightfully so, since most pets were not prepared to have to deal with their humans 24/7 over an extended period of time, and the song’s energy squirms in the seekout. Like all things we’ve come to know of the London quartet, Florence Shaw, Nick Buxton, Tom Dowse, and Lewis Maynard make these unorthodox occurrences in life sound intentionally cool (even when everyone is losing it over a turtle, quite literally at that…)

Dry Cleaning’s Stumpwork will be released October 21st on 4AD.
