At this point, you either are with the 1975 or against them. Choosing love is the easier approach, because that’s reciprocated on “I’m In Love With You”, the latest preview off their fifth studio effort, Being Funny In a Foreign Language. It’s apparent that on this go, the tracks we’ve heard so far off the album find strength in subtlety without relinquishing any of the band’s superpowers as a modern alternative pop-rock clinic. But then there’s a line like, “’Don’t fuck it, you muppet’ / It’s not that deep” Matty Healy holds in conversation with himself, and suddenly, even the version of the 1975 in plain view feels like it holds multitudes in its effortless.
