On “Pictionary”, it becomes even more evident that Peel Dream Magazine creator Joe Stevens has successfully moved the timeline from the static-drenched pop of 2020′s breakthroughs, Agitprop Alterna and the subsequent Moral Panic EP – rife for pandemic times – into sanguine mod twee in its wake leading into his third album, Pad. The listen is warmly fantastical yet anxious, weaving in and out of turns with a lucidity from darker corners just within closer distance. If you’re feeling playfully sinister, however, it draws with the brighter palette.
