“If everything you said were true / Rest assured I’d vouch for you / But your prophecies turned sour and blue / No flowers, no moon,” Alicia Clara sings on “Only Fools Wish for Love”, the lead single from the the Swiss-Canadian dream-pop songwriter’s second EP, Velveteen, due out in late October. Whispered and rippling, her voice hits like a perfectly-formed teardrop onto a plush pillowcase, with the dream that follows being an entrancing read on our current bedroom pop temperature, somewhere between fading into yesteryear’s Mazzy Star blueprints and beabadoobee’s lucid clarity, making it easy to hear how anyone could get caught up in this kind of destructive wishful thinking when it sounds this good.
